Registry-based Randomized Controlled Trials Can Do More With Less – Coalition for National Trauma Research

In a recent article published in Trauma Surgery and Acute Care Open (TSACO), CNTR Board Chair Ben Zarzaur, MD noted that in an environment of diminishing federal investment in research, conducting high quality clinical trials is increasingly difficult to accomplish. But by leveraging the National Trauma Research Action Plan (NTRAP) to identify high-priority gaps in knowledge and the data collected through the Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP), some of the challenges inherent in the trauma research enterprise can be overcome.

A registry-based clinical trial leverages existing clinical registries for data collection, reducing the logistical burden and lowering costs.

Read the article to learn more about designing a cluster randomized clinical trial using TQIP data—an innovative and efficient approach to facilitate the rapid translation of findings into practice.
