KeriCure Medical and CNTR Begin First Clinical Trial on Cutting Edge Spray-on Wound Dressing for Burns – Coalition for National Trauma Research

KeriCure Medical, a leader in advanced biotechnology solutions, launched its first clinical trial at two study sites, enrolling both military and civilian patients. The trial, a head-to-head comparison of KeriCure Medical’s Field Shield Wound Dressing versus a standard of care silver dressing for military medic use in burn management, officially kicked off in January, 2025, at the US Army Institute for Surgical Research Burn Center (USAISR, PI Dr. Leopoldo Cancio) and Valleywise Health Burn Center (Valleywise Health, PI Dr. Kevin Foster).

To be managed by the Coalition for National Trauma Research (CNTR), the two-year trial will enroll 40 patients suffering 5-30% total body surface area (TBSA) burn wounds. The study will focus on healing outcomes for the patients, including healing time, complications, pain management, and surgical interventions required for healing.

USAISR’s Burn Center, located in San Antonio, TX on Ft. Sam Houston base is the Army’s only burn center and sees both military and civilian burn patients. Valleywise Health is home to the Arizona Burn Center, Arizona’s only nationally-verified burn center, treating thousands of patients each year.

KeriCure Medical’s Field Shield Wound Dressing is a first-of-its-kind multi-use spray-on wound dressing designed for advanced wound management for both civilian applications and military requirements for prolonged field care and Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC). “This dressing constitutes a unique combination of silver hydrosol antimicrobial and lidocaine for pain relief, integrated into KeriCure’s patented polymer barrier technology,” explained Dr. Kerriann Greenhalgh, Founder, CEO, and CSO of KeriCure Medical. “This synergy creates an optimal healing environment, effectively addressing bacteria and fungi while addressing the urgent needs of wound care.”

Dr. Greenhalgh said she expects the trial will show that Field Shield Would Dressing results in better healing with fewer complications.
