Job Title: Part-Time Controller
Reports To: Executive Director
FLSA Status: Exempt

Job Summary
Responsible for directing accounting functions, negotiating and managing financial agreements, and working with auditing and funding entities on periodic reviews.

 General Accountabilities

  • Coordinate, plan, and report on the financial activities of the organization including accounting, budget, credit, insurance, tax, and treasury
  • Conduct accounting, bookkeeping and auditing activities
  • Manage the organization’s line of credit
  • Manage the organization’s investment accounts
  • Produce billings for all active contracts
  • Oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Cash Management
  • Complete monthly, quarterly and year-end closing procedures
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to create annual program budgets, organizational budgets, and grant application budgets
  • Track revenue and functional expenses, allocating items to the appropriate budgets
  • Establish and maintain the organization’s accounting principles, practices, procedures, and initiatives
  • Prepare financial reports and present findings and recommendations to management
  • Perform general ledger account reconciliations
  • Forecast the organization’s financial position
  • Design and coordinate accounting and statistical data to include computing direct and indirect costs
  • Negotiate indirect rate
  • Coordinate with the audit company
  • Develop and maintain internal audit program and policies
  • Manage banking, insurance, and contracted services relationships
  • Advise management about property and liability insurance and manage policies
  • Monitor costs on contracts/grants
  • Ensure fiscal compliance with granting agencies and federal and state regulations
  • Create and file the organization’s 990, Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax, and appropriate Schedules with the IRS
  • Create, issue and file the appropriate 1099-MISC and 1096 forms
  • Oversee payroll functions, ensuring accuracy in payroll, benefits and required payments to State and Federal agencies
  • Participate in the Strategic Planning process, providing financial planning input

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree and seven years of experience or Master’s Degree and five years of experience in Accounting. Prior nonprofit experience desired. Prior experience with government contacts and grants desired.

Skills: Language

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journal articles.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors, investigators, and funding agencies.

Salary

$50-$65/hour, commensurate with experience.
