CNTR Research Fellow Presents to Global Initiative for Children’s Surgery Meeting – Coalition for National Trauma Research
Abi Muthumani, MD, CNTR research fellow, gave a virtual podium presentation at this year’s Global Initiative for Children’s Surgery meeting in Bogata, Columbia last month. Her presentation–Bridging Resource Settings: Translating High Resource Pediatric Traumatic Brain Injury Pathways Into Resource-Stratified Clinical Guidance–reflects work that is ongoing surrounding Dr. Lacey LaGrone’s efforts to democratize clinical practice guidelines.
Dr. Muthumani reviewed pediatric TBI pathways at a high-resource center and a low-resource center and extracted 124 discrete actionable recommendations in domains such as stabilization, imaging, neuromonitoring, and ICP management. She then mapped the guidance in a resource-stratefied framework.
The Global Initiative for Children’s Surgery convenes pediatric surgeons from around the world every two years, providing funding so that pediatric surgeons and trainees from various LMICs can attend.
